Village in the mountains

Certified by Lucille Rodier, Paris, 1946

During his fifth stay in France, Clarence Gagnon visited Switzerland as well as several villages in Austria and Holland. He does some small format works of picturesque views of these regions.
Set back from the urban center of Labergement-Sainte-Marie stands a small chapel on the edge of a mountainous forest. In the work Village in the mountains, Gagnon presents the Saint-Théodule chapel of Labergement-Sainte-Marie, near the Grange-Neuve farm, in the department of Doubs, Switzerland. This peaceful landscape seems to come alive under Gagnon's both skillful and spontaneous brushwork.
