The hunter's meal
RENÉ RICHARD (1895 - 1982)
The hunter's meal, c.1948-50
Cosner Art Gallery - Montreal
40,6 cm x 45,7 cm / 16'' x 18''
This camp scene with trapper and dog is drawn in brown ink and enhanced with colored pencils. This is a technique that René Richard explored in the late 1940s, a prolific decade in terms of drawings.
Also, this period is marked by its many canoe-camping trips near the Malbaie River, in the Charlevoix region. The latter will evoke many memories of the Great North when he was a trapper and a nomad. This composition thus updates his memories, but it also testifies to his most recent travels on the territory as a traveling artist.
