Bestiaire

111,5 x 81 cm (papier); 91,4 x 71,1 cm (image). Edition present in the contemporary art collection of MNBAQ.

From 1972, Alfred Pellan began to transform his house into a canvas of creation. His home is located in the Sainte-Rose Est sector in Laval and is an old Quebec farmhouse built in French-inspired stone dating from the 1840s. The artist transforms it into a work of art by painting the stones into different creatures. and fantastic beasts. The bestiary is thus created. From this work painted on the masonry a serigraphy numbered out of 100 is born. The theme of these animal creatures will be present throughout the 1970s and early 1980s in various mediums such as oil, screen printing and sculpture.
