Green Forest
From 1951, Arthur Lismer spent his summers in Long Beach, on Vancouver Island, and became fascinated by the mature trees and the lush vegetation found there.
Lismer's later works (1950-1960) are more intimate and present a personal view of his reflections on nature. The motif of the forest giant appeared in his work in the early 1950s. According to Dennis Reid, it evokes the memory of Emily Carr and her vision of the rain forests of British Columbia1.
