Charlie Tooktoo (Tookitu; Tuktu)
Born in 1926, Charlie Tooktoo is an Inuit sculptor from Kuujjuaraapik, Nunavik. Active in the arts, he distinguished himself with his sculpted works, which demonstrate a deep connection to Inuit culture and traditions.
His work was presented to the public, notably at the Eskimo Sculpture Exhibition and Auction, held in July 1975 at the Seattle Center Olympic Room in Seattle, Washington, USA.
Charlie Tooktoo's works are part of prestigious collections, including the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario, and the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City.
His sculptures are also referenced in the book Image Inuit du Nouveau-Québec by Céline Saucier and Eugène Kedl, published in 1988 by the Musée de la civilisation.
