The monotype printmaking technique involves painting on a metal plate (usually copper or zinc) using either fatty ink or oil paint. Once the image is created on the plate, it is passed through an intaglio press, which produces a unique proof.
In this case, the unique work is a monotype created by Jean-Paul Riopelle called Cap Tourmente F. The artwork was produced only once on Japanese paper. One of the main differences between the Cap Tourmente F monotype and the lithograph is that the monotype has a horizontal orientation, whereas the lithograph is vertical. This particular monotype is signed by Riopelle, but it is not numbered since it is a one-of-a-kind piece.
