In the series *Parler de cordes* (Speaking of Strings), Riopelle draws inspiration from the string games practiced by Indigenous peoples, which he reinterprets through a personal visual language. The work here evokes Galarneau, a symbolic figure representing the Quebec sun. Contrary to what one might think, it is not a self-portrait. Riopelle personifies the sun, which our ancestors once greeted with the expression "Salut, Galarneau!" at sunrise. Although this phrase has now fallen into oblivion among younger generations, it remains alive in the Quebec imagination, notably thanks to Jacques Godbout's novel *Salut Galarneau!* Riopelle thus illustrates this emblematic expression of Quebec cultural identity.
