Preserving the Memory of Neighborhoods
Throughout his prolific career, John Little established himself as the painter-archivist of the metropolis, documenting the transformations of its traditional neighborhoods:
A Love for the Plateau and Mile End: Henri-Julien Street runs through areas deeply rooted in Montreal's popular identity. True to his approach, Little forgoes grand monuments to paint the residential fabric, the alleyways, and the neighborhood perspectives where the heart of the community beats.
A Masterful Late Production: Dated 2007, this work testifies to the complete technical freedom acquired by the artist at the end of his career. His background as an illustrator and architectural draftsman is evident in the precision of the vanishing lines, while his brushstrokes become more muted to capture the heavy texture of the snow.
