Léon Bellefleur have been influenced by German modernism and the works of Paul Klee. The painter also valued children's creations. In fact, Bellefleur believed that children held special creative abilities and that these skills could be retained throughout life.

It is thanks to the art of Alfred Pellan that Léon Bellefleur decides to paint actively. He signs the Prisme d’Eyes manifesto. An exhibition of the artist's works is presented at the Art Association of Montreal. The following year, in 1951, Bellefleur received the first prize for modern painting at the Salon du Printemps at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. He will also exhibit at the Sao Paulo Biennale.
