Mlle de Verchères

A maquette for the statue commissioned from Hébert in 1911 and erected on Verchères Point near Montreal, Quebec in 1919. The 14-year-old heroine Marie Madeleine Jarret de Verchères (1678-1747), the daughter of a Seigneur in New France, famously thwarted an Iroquois raid on Fort Verchères in 1692.
