Abstraction

 Marcelle Ferron occupied an important place in the Automatistes movement. She signed the Refus global manifesto in 1948. She became one of the key figures of Quebec modernity. In addition to her prestigious Sao Paulo Medal, she was received in 1972 as a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. In 1983, she won the Paul-Émile-Borduas prize. During her career, the artist took part in numerous major group exhibitions in Canada and abroad, and the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal presented two retrospectives of her work: Marcelle Ferron from 1945 to 1970, in 1970, and Marcelle Ferron, a retrospective 1945-1997, in 2000.
