Stormy Weather

The painter Robert Harris was considered Canada's greatest portrait painter of the 19th century. This consecration came following the completion of the famous painting The Fathers of Confederation. This work was destroyed following the fire of the Canadian Parliament in 1916. He created the portraits of the greatest Canadian personalities of the time.

In addition to portraits, Robert Harris produced, among his many commissions, landscape works. Having studios in both Toronto and Montreal, Harris visited the Maritimes regularly. Here, the work Stormy Weather is painted on one of the coasts of Prince Edward Island, where he was staying on vacation.
