Luis Feito

Luis Feito was born in Madrid, Spain in 1929. He began his artistic apprenticeship at the Academy of Fine Arts in San Fernando. Although he began in figuration, the artist quickly discovered cubism and exhibited for the first time a non-figurative collection in 1955 at the Galería Buchholz in Madrid.

Following the invitation of the French government, Luis Feito leaves his teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando to settle in Paris. It is in the city of light that he is initiated to the creations of artists such as Serge Poliatkoff and Mark Rothko. From then on, he is interested in several artistic movements such as Informal Art and Automatism.

From 1957 to 1960, Luis Feito founded the Spanish artistic movement El Paso which aims to create a new spiritual state to Spanish art by recognizing the need to act in the aftermath of the country's civil war.

In the early 1980s, Luis Feito moved to Montreal for a period of 3 years and then to New York. Public artworks by Luis Feito are on display at the Université de Montréal, Place des Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal.
