Claude A. Simard

Claude A. Simard was born in Quebec in 1943. He studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto from 1962 to 1966. During these years of apprenticeship, he did an art internship in England. As a young graduate, Claude A Simard became the communications and design director of the famous Maison Simons in Quebec City, a position he held from 1966 to 1972. The following year, he founded his own graphic design firm from 1973 to 1984.
His career continued as a teacher of graphic communication to culminate as vice-dean of the Faculty of Architecture Development, Art of Design at Laval University in Quebec.

Alongside this brilliant career, the artist focuses on his works by combining his passions for painting and botany. He draws his inspiration from the gardens which are constantly being renewed in images and colors. For the artist, gardens are an art of living, a way of perceiving life.

He was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1981. He is also a founding member of the Société des Designers Graphiques du Québec and is the author of its code of ethics.

Important murals were commissioned to the artist by Parks Canada. Canada Post has illustrated the painter's work on postage stamps eight times. Several exhibitions of Claude A. Simard's works have taken place across the country as well as in Europe. His works were also exhibited at the 1991 Paris Salon at the Orangerie de Bagatelle.
