Sylphides N. 3

Léon Bellefleur saw a turning point in his career as an artist from the year 1957, his works became brighter and the use of the spatula began to appear in his creations. He was one of the first recipients of the Canada Council for the Arts grant, which appeared the same year. This grant will be used by the artist to finance his trip to France in 1958, where he will spend time in Aix-en-Provence with his family, alongside Roland Giguère and Mimi Parent. He even settled in the very famous Château Noir so often painted by Paul Cézanne.
The use of gouache was very present in Leon Bellefleur, he even preferred this medium to others. He will mention: "For a long time I have been doing gouaches and watercolors, between my drawings and paintings, and all of this gets mixed up, complements, holds together, -but I have a weakness for my gouaches, which often seem to me to render better. what I dream of.
