The black manner by the artist Marc-Aurele Fortin begins in the early 1930s, this process is the very opposition of Impressionism. The artistic critics of the time therefore consider this new technique as modern and original in their eyes.
Marc-Aurele Fortin visited France a few months in the year 1934 and 1935. On his return, the artist performs several scenes of his Parisian trip. Here, the church St-Severin located in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 5th arrondissement. This 13th century church is of Flamboyant Gothic style.
