Not seeking to represent a fixed place, this Ungava scene is inspired by René Richard's two great expeditions in 1948 and in 1951 in northern Quebec. This composition combines several sensory and empirical data that have shaped its northern experience. During the 1950s, the artistic recognition of the painter intensified with the inauguration of many exhibitions, but also through his series of works devoted to the landscape of the North.
